If your scanner dies again, I've had really good luck taking pictures of my typing with a camera phone (or any cheapy phone, for that matter).
Don't let broken technology break you from the virtues of typecasting!
I've come up to the checkout stand at office supply places and had cashiers that didn't even know they sold ribbons or that they were still being made. Funny.
